OAR program welcomes, helps first-time college students
Sustainable Community Building — Richland College’s Office of Student Life, Advising Center and Admissions/Registration staff have been working hard to foster student retention, learning success and degree completion. The OAR Initiative (Orientation, Advising, and Registration), a program for first-time-to-college students, welcomes them into the Richland College culture, helps them register for appropriate classes and gives them practical information to enrich their Thunderduck experience. More than 2,000 students and 800 parents/guests participated during multiple sessions held June through August. Students were surveyed and rated their experiences on a scale of excellent to good: orientation welcome session, 95 percent; campus tour, 73 percent; academic advising, 88 percent; and class advising and registration, 81percent.
