T-Duck coach Jon Felmet, Chibuzo Elonu, Giorden Cole earn NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament awards

Anytime the Richland College basketball team has needed an instant spark this season, Chibuzo Elonu’s number has been called.

He couldn’t have picked a better time to play arguably his best basketball of the season during the T-Ducks’ 2009 championship run at the NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.

While Elonu averaged just 8.6 points per game during Richland’s three games at the tournament, his high-energy style of play also contributed to seven rebounds per game.

For his efforts Elonu, who also recorded two blocks, was named MVP of the 2009 National Championship tournament.

Joining Elonu with Richland College post-tournament accolades were Giorden Cole, who was named to the all-Tournament Team after averaging 6.8 points and seven rebounds, and Jon Felmet, who was named the Gary Cole Coach of the Tournament after leading the T-Ducks to a 59-57 victory over Minneapolis Community and Tech College in the championship game.

This is the second national championship for Richland College, which also won the title in 1999.
