Richland in first place in MAC as season nears end

The Richland College baseball team, which is currently ranked No. 3 the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Division III poll, is playing arguably its best baseball as the end of the regular season nears.

 

With just six Metro Athletic Conference games left in the season, the T-Ducks entered their weekend in first place in the MAC and have won 18 of their last 22 games overall.

 

Included in the victories were wins in which Richland scored 10 or more runs 10 times.Of the four losses during this impressive stretch, three were to NJCAA Division I teams with two coming from Grayson County College, including Saturday’s 6-4 loss at home. Navarro College also beat Richland.

Richland headed into the weekend currently hitting .403 as a team and had belted 80 home runs.

The T-Ducks entered Saturday’s game against Grayson having defeated Northeast Texas, a NJCAA Division I college, twice – 13-3 and 14-4 and Texas Wesleyan University, a NAIA institution, twice.

Prior to these victories, Richland had also swept Mountain View College, 15-4, 16-11 and 18-2.

As of April 12, according to the Metro Athletic Conference Web site, Richland’s Travis Latz and Jon Masch led the league in several batting statistics including average, home runs and RBIs.

Latz is hitting .505 with 11 home runs and 51 RBIs, while Masch is batting .491 with 11 home runs and 52 RBIs.

Meanwhile, T-Duck Phillip Clinard is second among pitching leaders in ERA with his 3.20. He also has recorded 8-1 record as of April 12.

The T-Ducks are 37-11 on the season.
