Men's soccer team headed back to National Tournament; seeking sixth national championship
The Richland College men’s soccer team is heading back to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament after the T-Ducks defeated Cisco College, 4-1, in the Region V Tournament title game on Saturday, Oct. 30.
The T-Ducks, who ended last season as runner-up in the national tournament, are seeking their sixth national championship. Richland will enter the tournament on Nov. 13-14 in Herkimer, New York, with an 11-3 record.
“This feels good and the guys deserve it.” T-Duck coach Sean Worley said after his team’s victory. “I really enjoy going [to the national tournament] but, more importantly, it is for the players. For them to go, it’s tremendous. This is a once in a lifetime experience for them.”
The T-Ducks jumped out to a quick lead when they scored within the first five minutes of the game off a corner kick. During the play, Cisco’s goalkeeper mishandled the ball, leading to an easy open-net score for Richland.
Less than two minutes later, the T-Ducks scored again before adding a third goal with 12:30 left to play in the first half to enter intermission with a 3-0 cushion.
Cisco would cut the lead to 3-1 early in the second half but a fourth goal by Richland with 18:07 left in the contest put the game away.
