Guy Simmons pleased with baseball team's start to season
The Richland College baseball team opened Metro Athletic Conference play winning its three-game home series against Cedar Valley College over the weekend.
The T-Ducks opened the series with an 8-3 victory on Friday before splitting its games on Saturday, winning the opener 7-2 before losing, 6-5, in the series finale.
And although the season is still young, Richland College (5-4) baseball coach Guy Simmons is excited about his team’s start but admits that there is still a lot of season left.
“We are talented but we need a lot of practice time,” Simmons said before the Cedar Valley College series. “We are not where we should be but that understandable since we are very new together. It takes time. Baseball is not a sprint it’s a marathon. We have a long way to go.”
As for T-Duck players who have started the season on a hot streak, “Right now the best hitter we have is John Gebhard,” Simmons expressed. “The best Pitcher is Myles Duvall and David Hays, Joey Robertson and Brett Hauser have been doing a good job.”
Richland College plays at home again at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 in the first game of a three-game series against North Lake College that concludes with a double header starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27.
