Smith, Taylor key T-Ducks win over Ranger College

T-Duck freshmen Carderious Smith and Johnny Taylor combined to score 22 points in the second half to key an 82-73 victory at home over Ranger College. The win was the fourth in five games for Richland, which improved its record to 4-2. After blowing a nine point lead in the first half – one in which Ranger finished on a 19-8 run to take a one-point lead into intermission – Smith and Taylor set the tone early in the second half.First, Smith set the tone offensively when he converted a 3-point play the old fashioned way (hitting a layup and converting a free throw)  to give Richland the lead. Then, Taylor had back-to-back blocks on the defensive end. Still, despite their play, Richland couldn’t pull away as the game was tied at 59 with 7:35 left in the contest. Around a minute later, Smith scored to give the T-Ducks a four-point advantage before Taylor later grabbed an offensive rebound and scored on a put-back to give Richland a 68-62 lead. Ranger managed to cut the lead to 70-67 but wouldn’t get any closer as the T-Ducks made key free throws down the stretch to secure the win

The T-Ducks will play next at 2 p.m. Saturday in Terrell against Southwest Christian College before hosting McLennan at 7 p.m. on Monday.
