The Richland College Music Department Honors Retiring Music Educator Dr. Jerry Wallace
The Richland College Music Department will honor the retirement of Dr. Jerry Wallace with a concert entitled “A Tribute to Dr. Jerry Wallace,” Saturday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m., in the Fannin Performance Hall. Dr. Wallace, a much respected music educator, plans to end his 39-year career at Richland at the end of the 2011 spring semester.
The concert will feature three large ensembles at Richland: Chamber Singers (Dr. Michael Crawford, conductor), Wind Symphony (Derrick Logozzo, conductor) and String Orchestra (Dr. Paul Bonneau, conductor). Dr. Sherry Dean, Executive Dean of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies with testimonials given by Jerry McElveen, retired professor of English at Richland; Dr. Paul Bonneau, a past student of Dr. Wallaces’ and Dr. Alex McDonald, past student and music professor at the Julliard School of Music.
Tickets are $10 and are available at the door prior to the concert. All funds will go to the establishment of the “Richland College–Dr. Jerry Wallace Music Scholarship.” Scholarship funds will be awarded to future outstanding music students at Richland College. Patrons unable to attend the concert are invited to contribute by mailing checks to the Dallas County Community College Foundation, made payable to Dallas County Community College Foundation Inc. A reception will be held in the Fannin Hall foyer directly following the concert.
