New Poetry in Motion collection launched
Two Dallas poets were among writers featured in a new set of poems for Poetry in Motion, presented by Richland College and Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART).
The new 15-poem collection was unveiled Friday at Richland College’s Garland Campus. The series features Farid Matuk and Susan Briante, both of Dallas, as well as literary greats Henry David Thoreau, William Shakespeare and William Wadsworth.
For 10 years, Richland College and DART have collaborated on Poetry in Motion, a celebration to support the love of literature featured in public transportation.
DART started Poetry in Motion to North Texas in 1998 as a way to give riders a chance to take a mental break from their day. The colorful posters appear in DART buses and light rail vehicles. In 1999, Richland College partnered with DART in support of this national program coordinated by the Poetry Society of America.
Since its founding in 1992, the national Poetry in Motion program, inspired by a similar program in the London Underground, has expanded to more than 20 cities across the nation.
