This week’s RLC update – Soccer players named All-Americans

Student Success – Congratulations to Thunderduck Women’s Soccer student athletes recently named as 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Performance Subaru Women’s Division III All-Americans. Letty Adame, Chelsea Palmer, and Regina Martinez all achieved First Team rankings. Congratulations also go to Thunderduck Men’s Soccer student athletes named as 2009 NSCAA/Performance Subaru Men’s Division III All-Americans.Victor Almendariz and Fernando Garza achieved First Team rankings, and Brett Garrett achieved Second Team ranking.


This week’s RLC update – Former T-duck athlete named NAIA Champion of Character

Student Success – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recently named Tito Salas, successful former Richland student athlete and current standout on the William Carey University men’s soccer team, as an Academic All-American and recipient of the NAIA Champion of Character Award for his team. Tito was honored for combining excellence in academics as well as athletics. During his senior season at Carey, he scored nine goals and had four assists and was named to the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference All-Conference team.


This week’s RLC update – Former T-Duck named women’s soccer coach at Lubbock Christian University

Student Success – Congratulations to former student athlete and Thunderduck soccer player Babak Abouzar who was recently named head coach of the Lubbock Christian University women’s soccer team, which will play its first season in 2010. Babak began his college playing career at Richland, where he was a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American and helped Richland win one of its five NJCAA Men’s Soccer National Championships. He later transferred to Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., where he graduated in 2008 and served as a graduate assistant for the women’s soccer team.


This week’s RLC update – Baseball Coach Wharton honored

Employee Success – Congratulations to Richland Thunderduck Baseball Coach Joe Wharton who was recently named 2009 Diamond Sports ABCA Regional Coach of the Year for NJCAA Division III. Coach Wharton will be attending the Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame/Coach of the Year banquet in Dallas in January to accept this distinguished award.


This week’s RLC update – Women’s soccer team wins national title

Student Success – Congratulations to the student athletes of Richland’s Thunderduck Women’s Soccer Team who captured the NJCAA Division III National Soccer Championship in New York with a 2-1 victory over Montgomery Community College (Maryland). Also in championship tournament play, the Richland Thunderduck Men’s Soccer Team finished as runner-up national champions after losing a close game to Union Community College (New Jersey) 1-0.


This week’s RLC update – Men’s, women’s soccer teams advance to national championships

Student Success – Congratulations to Richland student athletes on the Thunderduck Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams who were recently victorious in the Regional Playoffs. The Thunderduck Men’s Soccer Team defeated Triton Community College 4-0, and the Thunderduck Women’s Soccer Team defeated the College of DuPage 2-1 (in overtime). Both teams now advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III National Championships in New York, Nov. 14-15. Congratulations also go to Thunderduck Soccer Coaches Scott Toups and Sean Worley for their outstanding work with student athletes, supporting both performance excellence on the field and in the classroom.


This week’s RLC update – Valero, Spruille named NJCAA soccer players of the week

Student Success – Congratulations to Richland student athletes Lilly Valero and Nicole Spruille for recently grabbing NJCAA Division III Player of the Week honors. Lilly’s goal-keeping efforts have helped lead the Thunderduck Women’s Soccer Team, who are currently ranked No. 5 in the latest NJCAA Division III national poll, to a 12-3-1 record. Nicole, a sophomore, leads the Thunderducks in play kills with 235, averaging 3.18 per set, and she is also ninth in the nation with a .445 hitting efficiency and No. 13 in play kills.


This week’s RLC update – T-ducks win 7th national baseball championship

Student Success – Congratulations to the student athletes on Richland’s Thunderduck baseball team as this week they won a fourth NJCAA Division III World Series Championship in the past seven years. Under the stellar leadership of Coach Joe Wharton, the Thunderducks defeated the Montgomery Community College team by a score of 7-5 in the national championship game held in Tyler, bringing Richland’s 2009 championship season record to 47-13.


This week’s RLC update – 2009 B-ball championship makes 12 national titles for college

Student Success – Congratulations to Richland’s Thunderduck Basketball Team and Coach Jon Felmet who recently won the NJCAA Division III National Basketball Tournament and Championship. Special congratulations go to Matt Rose and Giorden Cole who were named to the 2009 All-Tournament Team, Chibuzo Elonu who was named the 2009 Tournament’s Most Valuable Player, and Coach Felmet who won Coach of the Tournament honors. This tournament win brings Richland’s total to 12 national championship titles for Thunderduck student athletes throughout the years.


This week’s RLC update – Former T-duck baseball player invited to Cards spring training

Student Success – Congratulations to former Thunderduck student athlete Justin Fiske who was recently invited to join Major League Baseball spring training with the St. Louis Cardinals. Mr. Fiske was named an All-American while at Richland during the 2004 season. The Thunderducks went 49-16 that season and won the NJCAA National Championship. Mr. Fiske maintained a 3.5 GPA while studying and playing baseball at Richland, and he moved on to play Double A Minor League Baseball last year.
