What advice would you give student taking classes at Richland College?
If it’s something you enjoy, stick with it! School can only do so much. When you find your craft focus on it. Look up tutorials. Ask your professors for suggestions. Go through them. Don’t do anything else but what you are interested in. If it’s effects…do effects. Practice your craft. Especially after school hours. Keep doing it. Put in the time and effort. Always be persistent.
How did your experience at Richland College game department help you?
My experience at Richland College showed me the tools, equipment and software that I needed to concentrate on to develope my skills. Then I figured out what I had an interest in and concentrated on that. Every class that I took showed me a larger piece of a puzzle that was guiding me into the direction. I wanted to go. Chris Curra really helped guide me into special effects. The classes he suggested were geared to advance my knowledge and efficiency.
How did would you begin to look for jobs in your field?
Being mainly interested in game design, I started looking on line and in sites like LinkedIn and others for mentors and people who are doing what I want to do. People who I could ask questions like what’s happening in the field? I wanted to talk to people who could advise me on how to proceed. I also wanted them to look at my work and give me feedback on my projects which I hoped would lead me to a company interested in my work.
What would be your dream job or situation?
My dream job is to own my own studio making games.
Are you working on any other projects or personal work?
Not right now. I am mainly concentrating on my portfolio. I want to make it as perfect as it can be.
That sounds great. Thanks for taking the time to talk to us. Good luck with your search.
