TBA presents
“Precious Cargo”

Brazos Gallery, Richland College, Dallas
Aug4- Sep 2, 2011
Reception: Wednesday, August 31, 4-7 PM

Richland College’s Brazos Gallery presents the first collaborative effort of TBA. During a month long installation an 8’ crate will be transformed into a response to the uncertainties of nature. Stuffed with components salvaged from previous art works, the minimalist cube releases artistic detritus from which shelter and chaos may take form. The exhibition opens August 4th with a RECEPTION on Wednesday, August 31st from 4-7 PM.

TBA is comprised of artists John Frost and Ryder Richards. Finding common ground and drawing from individual practices, the artists offer formal and intuitive investigation as process. In “Precious Cargo” the artists, concerned with recent floods and natural disasters, embrace the tumult as they respond to themes of protection, adaptation and artificial stasis. Re-purposing the crate and art detritus into both shelter and storm, the piece presents risk as renewal while recognizing challenges that thwart permanence and force creative adaptation. Providing video documentation of the installation process, the exhibit provides record of creative risk and reward.

5 minute video of installation:

Frost recently exhibited at the Old Jail Center, Albany and at Texas A&M Commerce. He is an instructor at St. Marks School of Texas in Dallas. Richards has recently returned from an artist-in-residence in Paducah, Kentucky and participated in the “Texas Biennial 2011” with the RJP Nomadic Gallery. Frost and Richards will also be exhibiting with Eric Eley in the exhibit “import” at Ro2 Art-Uptown from August 13-27.
