T-Dust Alert #36 – Renovation of Parking Lots A & B
WHAT? It has become necessary to demolish, renovate, and resurface Parking Lots A & B.
WHERE? These lots are located west of ThunderDuck Hall and south of Sabine Hall.
WHY? Investigation has shown that the aging, inadequate sub-base is contributing to recurring potholes and can no longer sustain heavy, daily, vehicular traffic.
WHAT ELSE? Due to the extensive nature of the project scope, Parking Lots A & B will be completely inaccessible to students, staff, and faculty throughout the duration of the project.
WHEN? The resurfacing project will begin on October 10, 2011
October 12, 2011, and will tentatively last through the week of November 20, 2011, weather permitting.
HOW? Both parking lots will be taken down below the sub-base to construct a solid foundation. Once a stable sub-base is in place, a 6″ deep mix containing the existing asphalt and new material (asphalt mill) will be laid. A 2″ finishing layer of asphalt will be installed on top of the sub-base and asphalt mill.
HOW ELSE? Temporary ADA parking spaces will be created and located in Parking Lots C and D along the southern edge of both lots. Ride sharing is encouraged to mitigate the temporary loss of all A & B parking spaces.
HOW MUCH? This necessary project is being funded by $361,566 from Richland’s Fund Balance.
WHO? College Police will be actively involved in traffic control during the first week of renovation. Temporary signage will also be installed to help direct traffic during the project.
