T-Dust Alert #43 – Deferred Maintenance Window Tinting Project

WHAT? Facilities Services is currently engaged with a contractor to install 9,000 sq. ft. of window tinting on exterior building windows.

WHERE? Window tinting is being installed in all west-facing windows with the exception of the Fannin Hall art studios, Thunderduck Hall west entry, and Sabine Hall west façade, along with east-facing windows requiring replacement due to age or vandalism.

WHY? The project is being completed to decrease cooling load and electrical costs for an estimated savings of 7% or $60,000 of the annual electrical budget. Richland College will also receive a $2,000 rebate from ONCOR for completing this energy-efficiency work.

WHEN? The tinting installation will be completed the week of August 12.

WHO? Moonshadow, Inc., is the independent contractor conducting the installation.

HOW? This facilities upgrade is being funded by $52,000 in Deferred Maintenance funds.

T-Dust Alert #42 – Main Collection Lower-Level Library Renovation

WHAT? New shelving, ceiling grid, energy-efficient lighting, carpeting, paint, and signage will be installed in the lower level of the library.

WHY? This work is required to bring the library’s Main Collection stacks into current ADA accessibility code compliance.

HOW? The Lago Vista and Main Collection levels of the library will be completely closed during this work, as this renovation will require removing 75,000 books and re-shelving them when the renovation is completed.

WHEN? The work will begin on July 26, 2013, and be completed September 27, 2013.

WHO? The work will be conducted by LibraTech Corporation, library staff, and Richland College Facilities Services.

HOW ELSE? During the course of the project, students, faculty, and staff will continue to have access to reference books, e-books, databases, and other online resources. They can also request delivery of books from other DCCCD colleges or request a TexShare card for checking out books at area libraries.

HOW FUNDED? The project will be funded by the Richland College Fund Balance.
