Accounting versus Currency Format in Excel
When formatting numbers, do you understand the difference between the Accounting number format and the Currency number format?
When you click the $ button on the Home Tab in the Number group on the Ribbon, you are applying the Accounting format.
To apply the Currency format, you would need to either click the down arrow in the Number format text box or launch the Number Dialog box.
Both the Accounting and the Currency format will add two decimal places.
- aligns all the dollar signs at the left edge of the cell
- a dash is displayed for a zero value
- aligns the dollar signs next to the number
- a zero is displayed when the cell’s value is zero
