Theatre Students Win Awards at Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival

Congratulations to the Richland College theatre students who recently won several awards at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival – Texas State Festival, held at Panola College Nov. 6-9.

Richland performed its full production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and won the following awards:

  • Excellence in Ensemble Acting – The Mechanicals – “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” participants: James Jensen, Shae Hardwick, Gio Castro, Konstantin Terentiev, Michael Hampton and Carlos Radilla
  • Excellence in Scenic Design – Scott Osborne
  • Special Commendation for Innovation Production Design with Sustainable Materials – The Company of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (invited scene to the Region VI Festival in February
  • The Play within a Play – “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”
  • Irene Ryan Acting Award – Labrina Miles
  • Irene Ryan Acting Award – Shae Hardwick
  • Irene Ryan Acting Award – Catherine Christenson
  • Director’s Choice – Outstanding Production and Held Production for Region VI in February – “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

The entire set was constructed with reclaimed items. Richland has been invited to be the “invited scene” for a special performance at regionals, in addition to moving onto that next phase of the competition. Should Richland win at the regional level, the students would proceed to the national competition at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
