Canadian leaders visit RLC to benchmark

Institutional Effectiveness — A Richland College team led by Zarina Blankenbaker, vice president for teaching and learning, and Susan Barkley, executive dean of the School of World Languages, Cultures and Communications, hosted a five-member Canadian team from the U.S. Dept. of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs International Visitor Leadership Program during a benchmarking visit to Dallas/Ft. Worth on Jan. 30. The purpose of the “Higher Education in the U.S.: A Project for Canada” visit was to examine the U.S. higher education system, structure, administration and support services; explore emerging topics such as distance learning, virtual education, continuing education, globalization and international exchanges; learn about minority students, students with disabilities and economically disadvantaged students’ access to higher education; and study the role and collaboration of colleges and universities in the community. The Canadian visitors also visited the University of Texas at Dallas, Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University and Tarrant County Community College-Trinity River Campus.
